I have the following: Dell R400 / 256 Mb Ram / Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack3) Turtle Beach Sound Card Cakewalk 7.02 Alesis QS 6 QS6 instrument definition file installed. Midi Cable Connection I can record tracks from the Alesis without problem. But I can't FOR THE LIFE OF ME get Cakewalk/Alesis to work on playback. Basically I would like to have whatever bank and program I assigned the track in CW pull from the Alesis (Preset1,Present2, etc) bank and programs instead of through the system speakers.

The Alesis manual SUCKS! A detailed setup would be appreciated. >I have the following: >Dell R400 / 256 Mb Ram / Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack3) >Turtle Beach Sound Card >Cakewalk 7.02 >Alesis QS 6 >QS6 instrument definition file installed.

Enable MIDI Program Select 1. Press 'edit' and then press the 'bank up' button it will then say something like 'Master Pch: 00: then press the 'cursor' button a few times and make sure that it is position under the 'm' of Master pitch.

Now turn your data wheel until you come to 'MIDI PrgSl:'. Kakki Sattai Full Movie Free Download Kickass. Now press the right cursor button which should take you over to the on/off option and then use the data wheel again to select 'on' position. Ok that sets your synth to receive program changes. When you select voices in cake walk they should automatically change.

Now that's done press the left cursor button and use the data wheel to go to 'I/O' and make sure MIDI is selected. That allows your synth to communicate with cakewalk over the MIDI cable 3. There is one more adjustment to make. If you want to put your synth in General MIDI mode (for playing GM MIDI files from other people or downloads). Use the data wheel once more to find the 'General Midi:' mode at set it appropriately. Make sure that if you are using are synth to play back MIDI sequences that it is in the mix mode. You can put your synth in 'mix mode' by pressing the 'mix' button on the panel.

Unfortunately you can't use the program presets for sequence playback. Those are for live performance. You will have to use Cakewalk to layer patches. *note* You might want to also get the Cakewalk instrument definition file for your qs6. I might have it around if you would like me to e-mail it to you.

It's very small. That way you can select the instruments you want from your qs6 and all the names match in cakewalk.

It's a pretty cool way of doing it. If it's set up right you shouldn't have to touch your qs6 setup again. It should always track with what cakewalk is doing. Quote:>Enable MIDI Program Select >1. What midi sysex do you send to the machine to have it go to this mode on it's own? Make sure that if you are using are synth to play >back MIDI sequences that it is in the mix mode. Once I have the my synth setup this way I don't have to touch it again.

Whatever patch I select for whatever MIDI channel, the synth just changes automatically. It is using controller 0 info to send the program changes I believe. I just pick a patch through cakewalk and the synth automatically sets itself up. Scott, I now have recording and playback working with the QS6. Couple of things: 1.

I can listen to GrandPiano (00-0, Preset1), when I set the QS6 to that, for example but I can't hear the other tracks. I can hear the other tracks when I put the QS6 in Mix-Multi but, as you said, it just plays the GM instruments. Of course, I would like to hear the programs from where I selected (for obvious reasons) but I don't want to buy 16 QS6s!!! Is there no hope for the retched? I can hear the other tracks when I put the QS6 in Mix-Multi but, as you >said, it just plays the GM instruments. Turn General Midi off in the main edit screen. It's 2 or three in. From that point on it will access the appropriate patch within a bank for you, relative to the instruments set for each channel in your Mix Mode. My difficulty is having to use my hands to shift back and forth between GM when using Band-in-a-Box or listening to public midi's and using Non-GM patches when doing my own stuff with a sequencer. Doesn't anyone know the sysex for GM on/off? --- Gerry --------------------------------------------------- Every time the President talks about anything other than scandal he is changing the subject.
