I don't use GUI's, but you could try moving the original avss.dll to a '_backup' folder and then rename the mod to 'avss.dll' (the exact same name as the original) so as to replace the original.
MeGUI should be able to detect that, without fancy registering. If it's still greyed out, then it probably does a hashcheck against the original or something to verify that the original is there. When I used to use GUI's, I found that (sometimes) that would do the trick.
