I noticed that when I save a file and then use SaveAs the last file name that I typed in appears in the File name input box. This lead me to wonder if it is possible to automatically increment a file name by 1? To clarify (I hope), if my last file name is TEST0001 and I click on my SaveAs button it will increment to TEST0002, execute the save and then regen my drawing (there is a Diesel function in the titleblock that retrieves the file name). Then if I click on my SaveAs button again it will increment TEST0002 to TEST0003 and so on.

Rename files by incrementing a number within the filename. Sort -g -r` do filename=$(basename '$file') extension=$. Auto increment filename.
Setting incr to 0000 will return a value of simply 0. Incrementing it up by one will return just 1. And that won't be valid input for (strcat), which requires a text string. If you start with string: (setq incr '0000') then you won't be able to raise that to '0001' by using (1+). That would require (atoi) to convert it to an integer, then (1+) to increment it, then (itoa) to convert it back to a string, and something to count the number of characters in that string and add the appropriate number of 0's to the beginning of it to reach a total of four digits. I think there are routines that do all that in the Discussion Group history.

Not sure how to catenate more than 2 pieces of string. You can concatenate any number of strings together in one (strcat) function.
Version Control Keeping track of different versions of a file has always been a pain for me. I am grateful that I have access to Microsoft SharePoint at my company and am able to easily save a new version without even thinking. However I received a question from a reader who goes by the name Kauket, asking if it was possible to automate saving a new version for a file. This was a great question and really caught my attention. Let's walk through how I personally would tackle this problem and see if we can come up with an efficient solution.
The Logic Let's first think through what we will need to code. Below I will list a few of the major capabilities our VBA code will need to possess. • Determine if a previous version already exists • Determine where the file is saved (or if it is saved at all) • Create a new version with an incremental version extension (for example adding '_v2' to the end of the file name) I decided to write VBA code for Excel as well as Miscrosoft Word and PowerPoint in case you would like to use the same process with your documents and presentations. Luckily there aren't too many differences between the three macros sets. Function To Determine If File Exists: In order for the main VBA code to work, you will need to use a small function that determines if a specific file (via file path) exists on your computer. This is very important in order to determine the proper version number to use. I found a great article on Ron de Bruin's website detailing various ways to check if something exists with VBA code.

MAKE SURE that you include this function along with any of the application macro code versions shown below. You can just paste the below code below either the Excel, PowerPoint, or Word subroutines. Not only will it help save you time if your current file gets corrupted, it will also allow you to go back to an earlier version if you decide (or are demanded) to take your project in a totally different direction.
